N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
MANGAORONGA BRANCH. At the instigation of the above branch, the chief Government veterinary-surgeon very kindly arranged for Mr Lyons, supervisor of the Auckland district, to deliver a lecture at Rangiatea on Friday. The meeting, which was attended bv practically every settler in'the district,, was held at Mr David Ormsby’s large milking shed, where a practical demonstration with troubles affecting milch cows was giyen. Mr Lyons demonstrated the manner in which to hold a cow and forthwith inserted his arm, up to the arm-pit, down the animal’s throat. This was the remedy for relieving a turnip in a cow’s throat or drenching. . The lecture. covered many of the most frequent diseases, such as milk fever, abortion, inflamation, tuberculosis and tutu poisoning. A simple and very effective manner of throwing a bull or horse was shown. The surgeon also dwelt on diseases in horses, sheep and pigs. ' •y:.
Some of the farmers presentrelated personal troublesome experiences with stock describing the symptoms, and the lecturer informed them of the remedy in each case.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Lyons for his able lecture, which proved most interesting and instructive.
Mr Lyons, at the request of the Farmers’ Union, also delivered lectures at Otorohanga, Kio Kio and Otewa.
