TO THE EDITOR,
SIR,—I do not wish to cast any reflection on the Town Board, but it struck me as I was watching my own reflection in the main stream, I mean street, of Te Awamutu, that the Town Board are evidently muddlers. I want to put them on their metal and get them to metal the streets properly. In the summer we watch the carts depositing loads of sand on the streets so as to show us that the Board has grit anyway, and in the winter we watch the carts casting crushed limestone into the waste of mud and waters. Is this the much boasted of sinking fund of which we hear so rinich ? I would like to see a special sitting of our Board, and I would suggest that they sit opposite the post office. I think they would stick to their promises there alright. The poet sings “ Come into the Garden Mud,” but I say, that if you want mud, come into Te Awamutu. I won’t occupy any more of your space, as I’m rowing home in a few minutes, but I would like to challenge Andy to scull him over the Board’s new course. Its a good sheet of water with no rocks. —I am, etc., TARRED MACADAM.
TO THE EDITOR,
SIR, —I see in to-day’s issue of the Argus, a report of a hockey match, Waipa v. Waikato. I should like to know why the Te Awamutu team is called Waipa, as it is not a rep. team in any sense. The country selectors were not consulted, or even notified that the match was takingplace. It is true most of the team journeyed to Auckland to play for Waipa in the White Horse Cup competition. There are men who were selected to go to Auckland, but s were unable to go. Were these not worthy of a place on Saturday ? Two country players were notified on Friday that they were selected to play the following day. —I am, etc., Country.
