MANGAPIKO.

(Own Correspondent.)

.The many friends of Mr and Mrs Garland assembled in the Mangapiko school room on Wednesday last to bid them farewell. The' following excellent programme was rendered :—Piano solo, Mrs McLean ; songs, Messrs Hey, .McLean. Parker, .Milroy, Galloway, Garland, Godfrey, and Mrs,-McLean ; recitations, Miss Alexander, Messrs Wilkinson, and 'Chalmers; violin solo, W. •Alexander. Several selections Were given on the phonograph kindly dent by Mr Barnes. At the conclusion of the concert Mr C. Alexander, in presenting Mr Garland with a case of pipes, re- , ferrecl to the excellent manner in I which'he had always carried out : his duties as a creamery manager, and expressed the hope that MiGarland, when enjoying his evening pipe, would see through the riAgs of fragrant smoke visions •ofhisold friends of Mangapiko. Responding, Mr Garland expressed his sincere thanks for the ■ way his services had beed apprepreciated during his stay in the district, and hoped the time was not far distant when he would see all his friends again. After singing " He's a Jolly Good Fellow," supper was served and the : room cleared for dancing. Mr and Mrs Garland are leaving at I the end of this week for their future home in Matamala. It is understood that Mr Mathers will take up'the'duties as creamery : manager.
