TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.

In response to representations made by the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce, the Postal Department has now arranged a 16hour service at the local telephone exchange —from 7 a.m. till II p.m. The extended hours were observed yesterday for the first time, and already have proved a great convenience to those aware that the extension had been made. It is anticipated, now that the extended hours are established, a greater number of residents, more particularly those in the outlying districts will become connected with the local exchange. The benefits of the telephone have been fully recognised in the past, and with the extension of hours, the utility of the ’phone is much greater.
