The gymnasium in connection with the above institute was opened on Tuesday evening at Norden's sample rooms. During the evening Mr Oliphant gave some illustrations of the various grips and holds of Ju-jitsu, and it was explained that owing to the absence of the mat, it was not possible to show the falls, etc. However, a fuller demonstration would be given on Tuesday week when the mat arrived.
