There was a large attendance at the progressive euchre social and dance held in the Town Hall last evening. Mrs Mold secured the first prize for the Mr W. Christensen the gentlemen’s, Miss L. McFlynn and Mr D. O’Brien scoring the booby trophies. At 10 o’clock the hall was cleared for dancing, and a dozen dances were gone through. Supper was provided, and a very pleasant evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A man named Harry Rae was arrested on a charge of drunkenness on Monday last. He was brought before Messrs White and Irvine, J.P.’s, at To Awamutu on 13th. The offender was convicted and discharged on the charge of drunkenness, and a prohibition order issued against him.

About noon yesterday, whilst Mr Benson, of Wharepuhanga, was taking two friends for a | drive, the horse, took fright and bolted along the main road. - The ,■ three occupants were thrown out, j but escaped injury, the horse j continuing its career until oppo- j site Mr Meredith’s, where the j horse ffill and overturned the j buggy. The horse, which be- | longed to Mr Benson, luckily j escaped with a few scratches, J but the buggy (the property of ! Thomson Bros.) was consider-! ably damaged. An elderly man named Patrick Fitzgerald, who has been work- ! ing about Kihikihi for a number of years, was taken seriously ill on Monday night. Dr Reekie 1 was called in, and upon examination found the man to be in | a semi-conscious condition, and i ordered his removal to the | hospital. He was conveyed to j the Hamilton hospital by Con- ■ stable Wade yesterday, and was still unconscious. Very little j hopes are held out for his re- : covery. Fie is supposed to be ; suffering from hemorrage of the. brain.
