VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
The annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Volunteer Fire Brigade took place last Friday in the Cosmopolitan club room. Present -.-Captain Bickerstaff (chairman), Foreman Moeller, Firemen Richards, Paul, Haselden, Warner, Stewart, Bockett, and A. C. Edwards (secretary). Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The committee reported as follows : —Three meetings have been held by the committee. An offer of £5 for three hand pumps was made to the Taumarunui Fire Brigade, which offer was accepted. A chemical fire extinguisher has been purchased, and two more of a larger size ordered. Mr Lenehan gave the brigade permission to erect a bucket stand at his factory, which, was accepted with thanks. Ninety feet of hose, together with couplings, have been ordered from the Fire Brigade Supply Co. It has been decided by the committee that one fireman shall be on duty at the Town Hall, including two officers, viz., lieutenant and foreman, and that the names go in alphabetical order. The committee has decided that the firemen shall attend all practices in uniform.
A letter was received from Mr W. F. Stewart, in reply to a letter sent to him, stating that he would be willing to meet the brigade and discuss matters in connection with the organisation of a bazaar.
A letter was read from the secretary of the Taumarunui Fire Brigade regretting delay in forwarding washers for new pumps. Fireman Richards applied for leave of absence for one week. — Granted.
The secretary brought up the matter of whether it would be advisable to hold a euchre party and dance once a month. —It was decided that a committee consisting of Messrs Bickerstaff, Stewart and Edwards be appointed to go into the matter.
The question of accident insurance was raised by Fireman Richards, and after discussion it was resolved that the insurance papers be laid on the table at the next general meeting. A letter was received from Fire Brigade Supply Company making enquiry re size of hose. It was resolved that the secretary be instructed to send portion of hose together with coupling. A letter was received from A. and T. Burt expressing regret at the inconvenience caused by the delay in the delivery of lamps and helmets. The secretary reported having received the sum of £i 8s 9d, proceeds of the benefit entertainment given by Mr J. Langmuir.
The following accounts were passed for payment WAlPA POST ss, Gifford 19s 6d.
The Earl of Plymouth has purchased the Crystal Palace. His intention is to transfer it to the public At the same price as he paid for it.
