The first meeting of householders held in the settlement for the purpose of electing a school committee took place last Monday. Eighteen persons were present and ten nominated, the following being elected : —Messrs F. Kurth, J. Roigard, A. Ferguson, F. Were, A. H. Brett, J. Patterson and C.Rumbles. At the meeting after the election F. Kurth was elected chairman and F. Were secretary.

The teaching staff was accorded a vote of thanks for the very able manner they carried out their duties while they have been here. Mr Kurth was also accorded a vote of thanks for the satisfactory way he carried out the duties of chairman since the school has been open. The local football club’s first match of the season will be played against the Parawera team in Mr Knight’s paddock on Saturday. /
