SIR, —The Town Band is to be congratulated upon the generous spirit prompting its members to offer their services to the Polo Club on sports clay as a mark of appreciation of that club's recent successes at the Palmcrston North tournament. It is refreshing to find such evidence of good fellowship in our town. It is worthy of encouragement and emulation. The band will lose nothing by this very graceful act. I wondered when 1 contributed my mite towards starting the band, whether 1 would ever get my money's worth. I now no longer have any doubt, and if the band is ever in need of a leg-up I hope I may be asked to help. — I am, etc., .-

Slß—Being a frequent visitor to the Public Library, I would like to draw your attention to the need of a light at the front entrance. I have a dim recollection of a lantern being placed there last Winter. As it is at present, it is impossible to see the steps on emerging from the lighted room, and it is simply a matter of "groping in the dark." —1 am, etc.,
