PALMERSTON NORTH TOURNAMENT FOR SAVILE CUP.

FINAL TO BE PLAYED TO-DAY.

TE.AWAMUTU’S UNBROKEN * SUCCESS.

(By Telegraph. —Special to Post) Palmerston North, Yesterday, 7. 55 P- m -

Very considerable interest centres in the tournament being held here, and all the matches have been witnessed by a large number of spectators. Visitors are present from all parts of the Dominion, and as the time for the final game for the Savile cup approaches, the excitement increases. The holders of the cup last year (Hawke’s Bay) were defeated In'the first round. This was anticipated by many of those who had watched the progress of the teams during the year. At the commencement of the tournament it was generally considered that the finals would rest between Mangaheia and Parewanui. Opinions differed between these two teams, but it was generally admitted that either team would win the Cup. The games throughout have been very well contested and it has been a most successful tournament. With the exception of Saturday the weather has been fine. The Te Awamutu team has shown very good combination and has caused very much surprise to those who never reckoned on its being in the final. The team is under a disadvantage inasmuch as local teams have many ponies to draw upon, but the Te Awamutu ponies are holding out well. The final game for the Savile Cup, when the Te Awamutu and Mangaheia teams meet, will be played at 2 p.m. to-day. Following are the results: — FIRST ROUND. Hawarden B a bye, Fern Flats a bye.
