The school picnic was favoured with beautiful weather, and the children had a really enjoyable time, the only disappointment being the non-arrival of the prizes, but this was soon forgotten when the announcement was made that there would be another social for the distribution of prizes after the holidays. All joined eagerly in the races and games, and were quite ready for the feast when the billy boiled. A plentiful supply of refreshments was supplied by the ladies for the picnic and for the dance that followed in the evening. As usual there was a merry gathering at the hall, which will soon have to be enlarged, as the present building is no longer adequate for the increasing population of this thriving district. What might have resulted in a serious accident happened on the •I 2th inst. A heavy clap of thunder fiightened a pair of horses driven by Mr Clougher, who was in the act of hooking his can to the hoist at the creamery. The horses bolted throwing Mr Clougher and the can out. The horses went on home, where they were found later on with the waggon wrong side up, but fortunately undamaged. At the same time the telephone was affected by the lightning.
