WAIPARI.
(Own Correspondent).
It is pleasing to note that the contracts for the roading at the Wharepuhanga Extension Block are now under way, and are being put through in, a very workmanlike manner, \ though there is room for a lot more men on the works.
The telephone is now up, and the new post office is in working order, which for the backblockers is very convenient.
Several gangs have started bushfalling in the district, and things are *fair all round.
We have to thank Mr and Mrs Natzke for their kindness in allowing their house to be used as a hospital by the injured for not the first time in the verv short history of the block. Mr Worthington, the road engineer, is at present grading the new roads in the block.
The new season’s grass is coming away all right, and things look very well for a prosperous and go-ahead settlement.
We often sit and wonder as to why the ministry leave such a big district as this without even an occasional visit. There are at least 24 children here (and possibly more) who would be sent to Sunday school, while a goodly number of the men folk would be very glad to see a church established in the district. It is a very great pity someone does not move in the matter.
