NGARUAWAHIA RACES.

The meeting of the Ngaruawahia Racing Club took place on Saturday,under beautiful weather conditions. The attendance was good, and the meeting a success, both financially and otherwise. T. Ross, a son of Mr F. Ross, of Auckland, fell heavily in the Handicap Hurdles, through the breaking of a .stirrup leather. He sustained a severe concussion and was conveyed to Ngaruawahia for medical treatment. There were good fields for almost all the events, and the races were keenly contested. The following are the results :

Handicap Hurdles, of 12 sovs ; distance miles.

E. Falwasser’s St. Wood, aged (Conway), 9.3 I A. R. Clarke’s Stroller, aged (Terry). 10.5 2 F. FJ. Hinton’s Echo, 6yrs (Wilson) ... ' 3

From a fair start the field went off at a good pace, and safely negotiated the first hurdle. Sust and Stroller were leading to the second fence, where Sust fell. Stroller Jhen led the field right jnto the straight, but about 60 yards from the judge’s box, St. Wood put in a big run and won cleverly by a length. Maiden Handicap, of 9 sovs; . distance 6 furlongs.

From a moderate start Crusader was the first to show in front, the rest of the field being two lengths away. Coming round the bend the field closed in and half-way up the straight Irish Maid was a length to the good and running strongly won comfortably by three lengths, half -a length separating the second and third. A good deal of trouble was experienced at the barrier, and after breaking the tape the horses went off to a wretched start. Napper Tandy, getting away well, led 'the field into the straight, but then died away, and Aristscrat, who was nicely ridden by Conquest, came through and won easily from Explosive by three lengths. Publicans’ Purse, of 9sovs; 6 furlongs. W. F. Davis’ Frontino (J. Conquest) 8.3 ... I W. Sharp’s Tobias (Morris) 8.6 2 E. Ealwasser’s St. Wood (Trigger) 7.4 _ 3 Frontino led all the way, winning easily by four lengths. A great struggle took place for second position, Tobias getting the verdict by a short head. Hack Race, of 9 sovs ; 5 furlongs. F. B. Ross’ Bon Cyr (Ross, jr.) 8.12 I Wright’s Glenspire (J. Roche) 8.10 2 Hinton’s Echo (j. Wilson) 8.8 3 The field was again got away to a wretched start. Crusader showed out well for half the distance. Coming round the bend Bon Cyr and Glenspire caught up, and in the race for home Bon Cyr won by two lengths. Waingaro Welter Handicap, of 9sovs ; I mile. R. McMiken’s Explosive (McMillan), 9.12 I P Jones’ Aristocrat (Conquest) 10.1 ... 2 Anderson’s Paeroa (O’Brien, 8.7 ... .' 3 From a' fair start Explosive was the first to show out, but at half the distance the rest of the field closed up. Coming up the straight Aristocrat challenged, -but Explosive, responding to the whip, came away and won by two lengths. Flying Handicap, of qsovs ; 5 furlongs. T. Davis’ Frontino (Conquest), 8.4 I W. Sharp’s Tobias (Morris), 8.7 2 Patterson’s Fremantle (j. Wilson), 8.12 ... ... ... 3 Frontino, taking the lead from the start, - m easily by four lengths.
