CORRESPONDENCE.

fOm correspondent opinions arc their own; the responsibility of editorial items makes sufficient ballast for the editor's shoulders. It is necessary that all letters for publication should bear the name of the writer—not necessarily fo> publication, but as evidence of good faith.) TO THE EDITOR.

Slß—May I suggest through the columns of your paper that "Parent" should ask the committee who are getting up the school picnic to call a meeting to enable subscribers to attend and express opinions as to some other method of giving the children an outing, prizes, etc. In years past the school committee arranged trios to different places, and made it open to all who could possibly join in, viz., to Rotorangi Lake, Ruakura State Farm, and Te Aroha, and for three years we endeavoured to arrange a trip to Rotorua. All the above except Rotorua were carried out successfully, the Rotorua trip being too costly, the Railway Department requiring a guarantee amounting to about £7O. I feel sure many parents would be only too pleased to have an excursion to Rotorua, and the surrounding districts would join. I see no reason why whole families should not avail themselves of the opportunity of seeing the sights, and offering education to their children in a different form. As I have acted on all the foregoing committees, I will be only too pleased to attend and give all the information if a meeting is called, and will gladly make one to further the object, no matter where they decide to go. My experience" here is that parents will not give the time and assistance, and unless they will come forward and work it cannot be carried out to a successful issue. —I am, etc., JOHN G. ELMSLY, Chairman of previous School Committees. Kihikihi, Bth February, IQHTO THE EDITOR.

Slß,—Some time ago the Town Board purchased a road grader. This ornament lay for many weeks opposite the post office, presumably for public inspection. It has been removed to a more secluded spot, where, so far as I can see, it remains. Many of the roads are in a fearful state, and the grader has been idle all this time whilst the good weather is slipping by. . . .—I am, etc., PLUG. [Before writing to the paper in the above terms " Plug " should satisfy himself that his statements are correct. From enquiries we learn that Park Road and Te Rahu Road have been graded with the Board's machine, and other roads are now receiving attention. We have deleted the greater part of "Plug's" letter. His suggestions should be addressed to the Board direct—Ed. W.P.]
