DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB.

The opening of the fine new range, at Green Hill by the above club took place on Saturday. In the absence of the president Mr A. McMurray was in charge and called upon Mr C. Cox, of the AkaranaHßifle Club (Auckland) and a Bisley representative, to fire the first shot. A trophy competition then took place at 300 and 500 yards. The match was a handicap one and as will be seen from the list of scores appended the markmanship was of a very high order. The range was somewhat obscured by smoke. Messrs McMurray and W. Mclver very kindly acted as handicappers. The following is a list of the scores : R. Mclver 80, A. McMurray 79W. Mclver 79, J- Martin 79, G. Amor7B, A. Bly the 77, J- Milroy 76, T. Mclnnes 71, E. Clarke 69, Bartleet 65, W. J. Bickerstaff 64, Edwards 61. . At a committee meeting held in Mr Mclver's office last night, with Mr H. F. Edgcumbe in the chair, the secretary was instructed to acknowledge with thanks the donation of trophies from Messrs G. Borden, R. J. Ross, W. Stonehouse, C. T. Rickit and Sons, and Lawson and Swain, and it was resolved that a two days' shoot be held, on Friday and Saturday of Easter week, the programme to be published in tne next issue of the WAIPA POST.
