RURAL TELEPHONES.

AT PUKETARATA

Last night the delegates from the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce (Messrs Bray, Lawson and Warburton) accompanied by Mr Stewart journeyey to Puketarata and met the settlers in Mr A. Ormsby’s residence. The attendance was not over large, which was considered to be due to the fact that the settlers had only recently completed a bond to provide for the erection of a line'and the opening of a bureau in their district. After considering the “ party” system one or two settlers expressed the desire to instal the ’phone under the system, and application will in all probability be made at an early date. The other settlers desired to wait until the bureau system had been tried. In proposing a hearty vote of thanks to the Chamber of Commerce, Mr F. Potts expressed pleasure in the Chamber’s action in assisting the back settlers. It’s action in agitating for the through telephone Te Awamutu to Kawhia was indeed most commendable and was much appreciated by all the settlers. Mr A Ormsby spoke in a similar strain. Mr Lawson on behalf of the Chamber briefly responded. Before departing the delegates were hospitably entertained to supper by Mr and Mrs Ormsby. On Saturday night the delegates will visit Te Rore.
