SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

We much regret to report that a serious accident occurred to Mr Charles Hansen, son of Mr Christopher Hansen, of Pokuru, while working on Mr Clement, sen.’s farm at Pokuru, on Wednesday afternoon. A number of men, Mr Hansen among them, were engaged in taking in the hay crop, when a two-horse team with loaded waggon bolted. Mr Hanson jnr. ran to try and stop the horses, but was thrown down and trampled on by them. Dr Reekie was quickly in attendance, and after doing all that was psssible, had the unfortunate sufferer removed to the Hamilton Hospital yesterday morning. A further examination there confirmed Dr Reekie’s diagnosis that the injuries included a fracture of the spine, and but little hope is hild out for his recovery. Owing to this sad occurrence the concert which was to have been given by Mr O. Price Owen this evening, has been indefinitely postponed.
