The proceeds from Wednesday evening's benefit performance of moving pictures, tendered by Messrs Hayward towards the funds for the formation of the proposed bowling green and tennis courts, will form quite a handsome donation, a sum of no less than £ll being taken at the door. A well-varied selection of films met with warm appreciation from the audience! During.-thg' evening Mr Nichoismr""gave a fine rendering of the recitation entitled, "My Comrade Jim." The realistic effect of the picture portraying the sinking of a ship in mid-ocean was identified by the accompaniment of a very sympathetic rendition of the vocal solo " Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep," by Mr Owen, accompanied by Mrs Newman. Throughout the production of all other items an enjoyable musical programme was supplied by Miss Hazel Wilson. On behalf of the members of the committee Mr Owen expressed his thanks to Messrs Hayward Bros., for their generous support and to the audience for their ready response.
