NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION MEETING.

There was a large attendance at the meeting of the above Union which was held in the Cosmopolitan Club room on Wednesday evening. The chair was taken by. Mr C. Alexander. Minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting which were of a very voluminous nature were taken bv the chairman as read and duly confirmed. New Members.

The following new members were elected :—Messrs Parlane, McVerry, A. C. Pearman, Hey, Wellington, M. C. Lawson, A. Johns, B. Campbell, and T.Bond. A. and P. Association.

A letter was read from the secretary of the Hairini branch, dealing with the proposed establishment of an A. and P. association in Te Awamutu and strongly urging that action be taken by the Te Awamutu Union in the matter. In calling for the opinions of members on the subject the chairman emphasized the great difference of opinion which prevailed. So far as hewas, concerned he did not favour it, but saw no reason why delegates should not be appointed to make investigation, and meet other bodies interested. He feared the outlay would be too large for Te Awamutu and that it would be better to make a start with a route show. So far as the land in the district was concerned Te Awamutu was a great deal better off than other show centres, but it was the public attendance which determined the financial success of a show, and they could not expect this to be very large. There was no doubt that the opening up of native land in the district would increase the copulation, while the mental hospital farm would certainly contribute a number ot exhibits to the show. Mr Jaryxdid not think a show here would serve any useful purpose. At least it would only be a local affair and would have either to precede or directly follow the Hamilton or Cambridge shows. He had gone into the matter thoroughly with men well versed in show matters, and they all considered that it Would be of no benefit to the district. There were too many shows already, and the Hamilton one was the only paying one. Both Te Kuiti and Matamata regretted having started local shows, while even the Cambridge Show received insufficient patronage from the general public to make it pay. He would certainly like to see a Horticultural and Industrial Show here, and he thought that there was no district in the North Island which would give better results. He quite agreed that delegates should be sent to the proposed meeting and the matter of finance thoroughly thi ashed out.

Mr Allen dissented to the remarks of the chairman and Mr Jarry. - He thought they had an ideal district, Te Awamutu being a picked spot in the North Island. There was an abundance of good stock and they were likely to have liberal patronage. He could not see why Te Awamutu should not at any rate make a start with a small show. It would be all the better if it came just after the Hamilton show. He certainly thought the Union should take the matter up. and obtain the cooperation of the Chamber of Commerce. Several other members spoke both for and against, and it was finally resolved that Messrs Jarry and Allen be appointed delegates for the Union, and that the Chamberof Commerce, Jockey Club, and Hairini, Paterangi, KioKio, Pirongia, Teßore, Parawera, and Otorohanga branches of the Union be asked to send two delegates each to a meeting to be held in the Cosmopolitan club room on December nth, to go into the matter of the desirability

or otherwise of establishing an A. and P. Association in Te Awamutu. Accounts. The following accounts were passed for payment. Gifford lis -3d, Waipa Post 13s 3d, Farmers' Union Trading Association 9s. School Prize Fund.

As Mr Le Sueur would not accept any remuneration for the use of his room it was resolved .that the sum of 2s 6d be placed in the box for the above fund at every meeting of the Union.
