SPEAKING PICTURES.

The exhibition of pictures at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening was shown to a packed house. From a hioving-picture standpoint the exhibition was up to the usual standard, the pictures being clearly screened and the selection of films such as would meet with fairly general approval. By common consent the " speaking picture" was not up to. expectations. Five films, depicting the scenes of accompanying songs were screened, and the combination of both voice and action in this manner showed to what stage the moving picture can be developed by the perfection of the necessary mechanism and the thorough understanding of the principles governing the combination. For the greater part the audience was somewhat disappointed as the entertainment practically resulted in an exhibition of moving pictures, owing to the weak nature of the combination necessary to produce " speaking pictures." -
