TRADES PICNIC.

Favoured with the most magnificent weather, the annual Te Awamutu Trades Picnic and Sports were held in Mr Pollard’s paddock yesterday and proved a thorough success. Dependant as picnics are on a tine day, and their success or failure being so often decided by that tact alone, it was indeed fortunate that on this occasion “ Labour Day ” should provide an example oi what our climate is like at its best. It would be hard to say the number of people present thioughout the day, but it must have been well over six hundred, and quite a hundred vehicles were to be seen on the grounds. When the large amount ot work and sacrifice of time that an outing of this sort entails on those responsible for its management is borne in mind the utmost gratitude should be felt towards the members of the committee, who carried out their onerous duties in a most able and satisfactory manner. To the energetic secretary, JVIr P. W. Peate, especial praise is due, as it was by his untiring efforts that the success of the day’s outing was assured. The procession consisting of an advance guard of the Minstrel Concert and Comedy Club followed by Boy Scouts, School Cadets and children was duly marshalled at the Post Office at 10 a.m., leaving about 10.15 for the sports ground. Races and competitions commenced almost at once and continued without intermission throughout the day. The entries were in most cases numerous, and good sport was displayed by the competitors.
