OBITUARY.

AUGUSTUS VAN ZANDT MACDONALD. We very much regret to announce the death on 27th inst. ot Mr A. V. MacDonald, a well known and much respected resident of Te Awamutu. Though only a resident here during tne last three years, Mr MacDonald had many friends, and his untimely decease will be sincerely regretted throughout the district. He was born at Sholapora in India on 19th August, 1842, being a son of Captain James Murry MacDonald of the Ist Madras Light Cavalry. Sent home to England at an early age, he was educated at Exeter, Devonshire, and later chose the profession of civil engineer, serving his time in Manchester. He Lett London bound for New Zealand by tne sailing ship “ Caroline Coventry ” in February, 1869, reaching Lyttleton on 9th June following. He held a position in the New Zealand Government Railway service until his retirement in 1909> since which time he has resided at Thorncombe, Tc Awamutu. it is an interesting fact that Mr A. V.
