TOWN BAND "AT HOME."

The first annual "At Home" of the Te Awamutu Town Band took place in the Town Hall on Friday night, and proved a very enjoyable function. The poorness of the attendance, particularly of the male sex, must have been somewhat of a disappointment to the promoters of the dance, and will, it is to be feared, result in some financial loss. However those present, about forty couples, had a very enjoyable time, thanks to the energetic manner in which the arrangements weie carried out. The hall was prettily decorated with flags, the walls being tastefully ornamented with ferns and the stage with palms, etc. The floor was in excellent dancing order, and the M.C.'s assiduous in their attentions. The main feature of the entertainment was of course the music, which was admirably rendered by the Town Band, their smart appearance and excellent playing being the subject of much favourable comment during the course of the evening. At about 11.30 p.m. an exceptionally good supper was served, and too much cannot be said in praise of the successful efforts of those responsible for this always important feature, and particularly in reference to the floral table decorations which consisted of sprays of white and heliotrope wisteria, and looked really-beautiful. At the conclusion of supper, dancing was again vigorously indulged in, and it was not until the early hours of Saturday morning that the playing of " God Save the King " by the full strength of the band formed a fitting conclusion to a very enjoyable evening. The secretary (Mr A. J. Blythe) wishes specially to thank the following ladies who formed the committee, for their splendid work in,arranging what is admitted to be one of the best and most tastefullyydisplayed suppers ever provided in Te Awamutu : Mesdames M. Laurie, H. Hutr, A. Bygrave, A. J. Blythe, C. Bygrave, H. North, C. North ; Miss North, Miss Prentice.
