WAITOMO.

Settlers are anxiously awaiting the advent of fine weather to dry up the roads, which are in a worse condition than ever. Until the mud dries up practically nothing can be done in preparation for metalling. Unless a good solid bed can be obtained for the metal it cannot be expected to stand heavy traffic, and it is to be hoped the County Council will not allow work to be commenced until the road is in a* fit state. Naturally everyone is anxious to see the work put in hand as soon as possible, for the spring is getting on now, but after all it is best to wait patiently for a while until the weather conditions improve. At the present time the mail contractor, MrC. Kirk, is "carting" the mails on a,sledge, as the Waitomo-Hangatiki road is just about impassable for vehicular traffic. Tourists arriving at Harigatiki station and enquiring for the Waitomo "coach" will no doubt receive something of a shock and-will require to be possessed of a hardihood beyond the average to make the trip on a sledge:
