WAIPA RACING CLUB.
A meeting of the above club was held in the Commercial Hotel last night. There was a very fair attendance Mr H. Weal presiding. The minutes of the former meeting were duly read and confirmed, after which the balance sheet was read and adopted. This showed that the recent picnic race meeting had not only beep a most enjoyable function but had also been a successful one financially. The gross receipts amounted to £lsl is 9d with liabilities £133 11s 6d leaving a credit balance of £l7 10s 3d, and this together with the sum in hand at the beginning of the season (£42) made the club’s credit balance to date £59 ics 3d. Of the receipts £4l I2s had been received as nominations and acceptances, £2O 14s at the gate, members’ subscriptions paid £47, donations £lO lOs, and sundry sources of revenue £3T 5s 9d. On the liabilities side it is shown that £9O was paid in stakes, and £26 Is 3d in sundry accounts. The assets and liabilities account showed that £7 9s 6d was yet due to the club which, when paid would increase its credit cash balance by that amount. A list showing 97 members was laid upon the table. The chairman reported that at a recent meeting of the Ohaupo Racing Club it had been decided that the Ohaupo Club combine with the local Club. This action had been taken as it was thought that by so doing the combined clubs would have a much better prospect of obtaining a totalisator permit. Members of the Ohaupo Club (totalling approximately 60) were particularly desirous that a permit should come to the district and were willing to combine in order to strengthen the position of the Waipa Club in applying for a permit.
It was decided that the late Ohaupo Club be thanked for offering its moral and financial support, and to give members of the combined"clubs equal representation in the official list. A sum of approximately £2O was to be handed over from Ohaupo making the total amount in hand to the credit of the Waipa Racing Club £79 10s 3d. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the secretary (MrJ. Le Sueur). At request Mr Le Sueiu retired, and on his return the chairman stated that the meeting desired to donate to him £5 5s as a slight recognition of his willing and capable efforts. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the club officials and all those who had assisted at the recent meeting.
A telegram from Mr J. A. Young M.P., re Gaming Amendment Bill was read. Regret was expressed that there was but little prospect of the Bill going through the House this session. The secretary reported that there was a possibility of the Pirongia Club racing at Te Awamutu next year. The matter of arranging the date for the next race meeting was held in abeyance. Members were unanimous in expressing their desire to continue racing whether a totalisator permit was granted or not.
