WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The regular monthly meeting of the above Council took place in Ohaupo on Tuesday, the following members being present Messrs J. Fisher (chairman), Allen, Mucky. Teasdale, Poynter, Ryburn, Bryant, and Alexander. An Approved Road.
The Department of Lands approved the plan for a. road to be taken through sections 199> 270, 271, and 272, Pukete Parish. Beerescourt Road. Owen Bros, complained that by the filling in of the Beerescourt road the land on both sides had been flooded, and they therefore objected to it being taken over by the Council in its present condition.
A similar objection Was lodged by Mr C. Harwood. The deed of dedication for the road was forwarded tor the Council’s signature. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and riding member to deal with. Slaughtering License.
Thomas Cornes Cooper, Te Awamutu, was granted a slaughtering license. Appreciation.
The Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce forwarded a letter of appreciation to the Council for action in clearing the frontage of the Te Awamutu station yard. Legal Opinions. Legal opinions, dealing with the surveys of roads in other counties, apportionment of balances, river reserves, trees falling on roads or fences, balance sheet publication and non-completion of contracts were received from the Counties Association and filed for reference.
Crown Allotments,
The Commissioner of Crown Lands said the question of re-off-ering Crown lots in the locality would be looked into at an early date. A Pukete Section. Regarding section 262 a, Pukete the Lands Department stated that the original map was away at present, and that the matter would have to stand over awhile. Walker’s Gully.
The District Engineer stated that the Council would be advised as early as possible regarding the decision in connection with Walker’s Gully. Noxious Weeds.
The Commissioner* of Crown Lands asked what authority had control of section 101, Horotiu. The land was overgrown_ with noxious weeds, and he considered some action should be taken. Decided to supply the information. Ngaruawahia Main Road. Green and Colebrook, Ltd., Ngaruawahia, asked lor improvements to the road fronting their premises.—Lett in the hands of the supervisor. Standard Bridge Plans.
The Under-Secretary of Lands said.the Department would carefully consider a supply of standard bridge plans. „ Ohaupo-Paterangi Road.
The supervisor was authorised to place 200 yds of metal on the Ohaupo-Paterangi road.
Registration of Maori Dogs,
The Minister for Internal Affairs wrote that the registration of Maori dogs was under consideration.
Private Telephones.
In regard to the Council’s representations that telephone fees on private lines be reduced to 3d, MrYoung, M.P., wrote the Council that the Minister had informed him that the extra 3d did not go to the Postal Department, but was a fee which went to the local bureau attendant. The Ministerheld out little hope of an alteration.
Telephonist Wanted
Owing to the difficulty in obtaining a telephonist for the Rukuhia bureau, the Department asked the Council to nominate a suitable person. The matter.was left in Councillor Bryant’s hands. A Fencing Application.
Messrs Finn and Godfrey asked to be allowed to run out a temporary fence to the water table on to the station road at the corner of the Ngaruawahia-Ohaupo road. —Granted. Pirongia Reserves.
It was decided to apply for the vesting of four reserves in the Pirongia outlying district in the Council. Cambridge Gravel Reserves. In a report on the gravel reserves in Cambridge West, the supervisor stated that they were in a very bad condition, and he recommended that the land be subdivided and sold, keeping lYz acres as a gravel reserve. The matter was left in the hands of Councillor Allen and the supervisor. Hamilton-Tuhikaramea Road. It was decided to call tenders for earth-work and a new culvert on the swamp portion of the main road between Tuhikaramea and Hamilton.
Supervisor’s Report. The supervisor reported that it was becoming more and more ap^
parent that eAvth roads were if' fitted for the present requireifhts of the district,Vand honoring seemed to be theVnly spKrtion of the difficulty. AsS+rfife was no chance of doing this on favorable terms at present, he supposed they would have to endeavour to maintain the roads as well as at
present. The Pirongia lower road had been worse lately than for many years past. To put it in order would requi "e about £2OO, while the work would only be ol temporary benefit. Considerable expenditure was also necessary on roads in the Mangapiko Riding. The Cambridge-Te Awamutu road was also very bad, and would cost £240 to put it in failorder for next season, in the Pukekura Riding. Metal was required on a mile of the Ohaupo-Pater-angi road.
