PIRONGIA.
(Own Correspondent).
A fairly large'number of people attended the concert in aid of the Church of England, on Monday, which was a success in every way. The Rev. Clarke presided, and in a few wellchosen words announced the purpose for which the concert was given.- The first item was a piano solo by Mrs McCarthy. Mr Garland's item \vas ably rendered. No doubt the star performer was Mr-Bailey, who was recalled time and again. Miss M. Whittle was in fine form, as also were Mrs Roumki and Mr Galloway, who were both encored. Messrs Godfrey and B. Sim gave comic items, which were well received. Miss R. Fear was heard to advantage in " The Shepherd of the Fold." A vote of thanks was passed to the performers, and in appropriate words the Rev. Clarke thanked all who had helped. Mrs Clarke and Miss Whittle were the pianists of the evening. Refreshments were then handed round, and the floor cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the early hours. Mr J. Milligan's dance music was of the best and well appreciated. The M's.C. for the evening were Messrs Peat and Sim. The door takings amounted to over £B.
