* TO THE EDITOR. SIR,—I must say I think Townsman's suggestion about the motto an excellent one. The difficulty is in the selection. To the ( more jovial of our fellow citizens " Dum vivimus, vivamns" (while we live let us live) or "Le bon temps viendra " (There's a good time coming) would no doubt seem most fitting. To those with high v and lofty aspirations Aut vincere aut mori " (Victory or Death) " Volens et potens " (Willing and able) would appeal. The boastful would have-a wide selection from "Facile princeps" (evidently pre-eminent)" Mirabile visu" (Wonderful to be seen) "Multum in parvo" (Much in little) " Arbiter elegantiarum (An umpire in matters of taste "Audax et cautus" (Bold .and wary) "Crux criticorum" (The puzzle of critics) "Clarum et venerabile nomen" (An illustrious and venerable name) or "Nulli secundus" (Second to none). Those responsible for the bringing forward of the recent loan proposals might favour the Spanish motto "Chi non s'arnschia, non guadagna " (Nothing venture nothing have) while the opposition could choose from " Mihi cura futuri" (My anxiety is ' for the future) " Tempori paren(One must yield to the times) "Nitor in adversum (I strive in. opposition) or even " Vis a tergo " (A propelling force from behind). To the farmers painfully making their way into town over the almost impassable roads ''Per mare, per terras" (Through sea and land) seem fitest, others might prefer "Revenous a' nos moutons " (| (Let us return to one subject) or " Übi mel ibi apes " (Where honey is, there are bees). My own opinion favours ',' Opprobrium medicorum" (The reproach of physicians). Why not take a poll on the matter ?—I am, etc., Magnas Inter Opes Inopss.

TO THE EDITOR., SIR,—I have been expecting ►' that a more capable pen than mine would write supporting the valuable suggestion contained in your recent report of the Hairini branch of the Farmers' Union ' meeting. This newly-formed institution is apparently alive to the opportunities of this richly- < endowed district, and it has lost , no time in spying out what is, to , v my mind, one of the most necessary moves for the farmers and. public generally to take. I sin- * cerely trust that the Te Awamutu branch of the Union will rise to - the occasion as suggested by the ' Hairini branch, so that it will not ' be long before an Agricultural -and Pastoral Association will *be formed in this district. It has been said that we cannot run such an association here, but we must remember that the exhibits are right at our own door—exhibits, too, which compare favourably with ally in the Dominion. The oroposal is well worth trying, and I hope all ■ farmers and others interested will rally round and so launch V the proposal, which, under proper r control, will prove that what you, Mr Editor, have so often said—"we can "—is true.—l am, etc., HOPEFUL. TO THE EDITOR. Slß,—Some months back members were elected for Pirongia and Mangapiko Domain Boards, and so far nothing has been heard from head-quarters. There must be a lot to do, and as far as we know, no one to do it. The Vr old Board promised by certain dates to improve different leases, and the lessees are starting to murmer. I think it is high time something was done, as if it goes on much 16nger, some of us will '•,'' be in a nice fix. —I am, etc., LESSEE.
