TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular monthly meeting of Ifie above Board was held yeste day afternoon. Present: Messrs C. Bowden<chairman), A. Wallace, S. Mathews, and G. H. White, and Dr J. S. Reekie. Minutes. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Dr Reekie protested against the Board having authorised the immediate construction of the footpath in front of Mrs Woollass’ house when other footpaths previously authorised had not been touched. Mr White supported Dr Reekie, but the chairman pointed out that this work had not been undertaken by the Board at all. Their sole connection with the matter was the payment of one third of the total cost. Finance. The chairman moved in accordance, with his previous notice that a general rate of Id in the £ be made and levied on the ratable value of all ratable property in the town district for tljfe current year. This was seconded by Mr Mathews' and carried.

Inward Correspondence. M A letter was read from Miss Teasdale* as to the use of the Town Hall on Saturdays for danejng classes.—lt was resolved that the charge be fixed at I2s for the dancing class and 15s for extended evenings, and the clerk was instructed to write Miss Teasdale accordingly. .

A letter was read from Mrs Collins as to the replenishing of the Town Hall cupboard with crockery for use at balls and dances. —Mr Mathews stated that eight years ago the sum of about £l4 was expended for this purpose, but that vsjy little of the crockery was extant six months later.—After some discussion the clerk was instructed to write Mrs Collins regretting the Board’s inability to take action in the matter, and giving the reasons for their refusal. Town Lease.

A letter was read from Mr : S. Bonnar applying for transfer of lease of sections to Philip Menster. , It was resolved that the request be acceded to, and Messrs Bowden, White,and Wallace ,were empowered to sign a fresh lease. ' , ‘ Roach Street. A letter was read from Rev. Woollass asking that Mr Teddy be requested to move back his fence in Roach Street to permit of the passage of the Presbyterian Church, which is to be moved shortly. It was resolved to write Mr Teddy on the matter/ Deputation. A deputation consisting of Messrs Teasdale, von Stunner, Gifford, Peate, Gilbert, and Warburton, waited on the Board with a request that the Board should call, a public meeting for Monday next to discuss the loan proposals and answer any questiens thereon. ■The chairman' stated that the Board was most anxious that the public should fully understand all matters connected with the loan proposals, and would be pleased to call the meeting for Monday, as requested. Town Hall. Mr Warburton wrote applying for the use of Town Hall cupboard for the Philharmonic Society, and as to the delay in purchasing scenery with the money handed the Board. —The first request was, acceded to and the Board intimated theft willingness to pay the amount they had •‘in trust” for scenery on being satisfied with the proposed purchase or work to be done. , * ■■. Municipal Works. Letters were also received from "Messrs McArthur and R. E. Taylor re supcsv vision of municipal works. Building Permit. Plans and specifications for two shops, to be erected by Mrs A. Hyde in Alexandra Street, were submitted to the Board and the usual building permit granted,*, ' Hall Caretaker. It was resolved that the clerk be instructed to write the caretaker calling upon him to pav more attention to the cleaning of the Town Hall. Footpaths. It was resolved that the clerk be instruct-' ed to write Messrs Wheeler and Irvine to restore the footpath in front of their section in Alexandra Street to the satisfaction of Mr Mathews. Information having been given that the footpaths in Park Road were being used by horsemen, it was resolved that the foreman (Mr Bygrave), be instructed to> lay an information against the parties so doing. Purchase of Grader. < It was moved by Mr Matthews, seconded by Dr Rceker, that a grader be pur-‘A. chased for the use of the Board. Mr White moved as an amendment, that prices and particulars be obtained and the 1 new Board recommended to obtain one. The amendment was seconded by Mr Wallace and carried. / Culverts. It was resolved that owners of properly having outlets over footpaths be notified - to put in culverts, and if they failed to do so the work should be done by the Board . and owners charged with their proportion. It was resolved that the Clerk be in- A structed to write to Mr Mandeno and ask him to send in his account for work done for the Board.
