BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
NEW OFFICES FOR TE AWAMUTU.
As stated in our last issue, the Bank of New Zealand has accepted the tender of Messrs Hamon and Sons, of Auckland,
for the erection of new premises for its Te Awamutu branch. The contract price is £3673. and the buildings will be erected on the site occupied by the present structure, which for the 1 past thirty-five years has done good service. A rapidly-increasing demand, however, has necessi-
tated substantial improvements, and the Board of Directors considered itbetttrtoerecta new and more commodious building than, to attempt to have additions made to the building now used. . The uew building, which will be erected in brick and ferro-con-crete, will front Alexandra'Street having a frontage of 55 feet, this being almost twice as large as the present building. The extreme depth is 49 feet, 43 feet of which will be two stories high. The banking chambers are most convenient, and provide a public
room 35ft 6in x 26ft 6in. Counter accommodation is more than doubled when compared with present arrangements. The staff accommodation is a special feature, and ample provision is made for a larger volume of business. The accountant is handily situated, being in close touch with the manager's office and the public room. The Manager's office,
13ft 6in x 15 feet, opens to the public room and the accountant's quarters by separate doors. Exclusive of the manager's room and stationery cupboards the public and staff rooms cover a floor space of 972 square feet, a massive strong room complete the
banking chambers. The manager's private residence is .provided for in the upper storey, and immediately behind the banking chambers. Spacious and lofty rooms are shown on the plans. Opening on to Bank Street is a 10-feethall, off which open din-
ing and living rooms. Upstairs are five bedrooms and a drawing room 19ft 6in xls feet. The internal walls throughout are to be plastered, and for the greater part . ornamental steel ceilings will be used. Externally, the building has a massive appearance, being
well designed from each elevation. It will form a valuable addition to our local buildings, and will do much to improve the appearance of the town.
