POTATO SPRAYING.

A CROP SAVED.

A report from Athelstone, South Australia, states that Mr G. Packer has been carrying out extensive spraying operations in his potato crop, and a remarkable difference has been effected. The potatoes not sprayed had been completely destroyed by the blight, while those treated were absolutely free from the disease, and he believed. would yield a crop of 10 tons to the acre. The potatoes were of the Bismarck variety, which most readily took the blight. The plants had . been sprayed three times with a mixture composed of 61b of bluestone, gib washing soda, and 81b of lime to 60 gallons of water. The spray use was horse-drawn, and did about 10 acres a day. The cost came to about 5s per ace.
