BAND OF HOPE.

The last Band of Hope meeting for the present season was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening, on which occasion there was a very large attendance. The Rev. W. Woollass presided. The programme was "given by the children, every item being creditably rendered, and each in turn was very highly appreciated.

Recitations were given by Misses Vera Kimber. Eliza Scott, Nellie Gupwell, and Master W. Groves. Miss K. Galbraith gave a pianoforte selection as an introduction to the programme. Several chorus songs by Band of Hope members were very well received, the character parts being, deserving of special mention. Miss M. Peate, of Pirongia, went through a series of club-swinging exercises, which was a special feature of the programme. Masters Clotworthy and Groves, and Misses Stewart and White in a short but appropriate dialogue were very successful. As a break in the children's portion of the programme a dialogue .entitled, "Life Below Stairs," was given, the following taking part:—Mr Plover (a bachelor of-'means), MiTaylor; Mrs Slow .(housekeeper) Miss K. Allen; Mr Grabb (a detective), Mr F. H. Andrew; James (the fjji.:n:m), Mr Ivan George ; B-idget (cook), Miss Hutt; Mary (housemaid) Miss Allen; Kitty (maid) Miss R. Hutt; Buttons, Master J. Clotworthy ; Harry (coachman). Mr T. Davis. This dialogue raised the question, "Who drank the wine and spirit?" which formed a fitting subject in the programme. During the evening two little tots presented Lady Findlay with a boquet. In a short speech Sir John thanked the children. He was pleased to see so many healthy and happychildren in Te Awamutu, and again delivered the message from the cadets in England.

The meeting closed after the chairman had given a short address to the children.
