MILK FEVER.

Mr. Donald Rait, M.R.C.V.S., writes as follows : —"ln my recent address at Levin, it was not my intention to convey the idea that 'milk fever' in cows was due to the direct absorption of the butterfat into the system, but that cows yielding a high butter-fat test are undoubtedly more prone to be affected in this manner than those whose milk is of poorer quality. As a matter of fact, the etiology of this- condition is obscure, but the highest authorities are inclined to the theory that the symptoms may probably be the result of an absorbed toxin acting upon the central nervous system."
