SIR JOHN FINDLAY AT TE AWAMUTU.
Sir John Fihdlay arrived at Te Awamutu by the Main Trunk express last night. His object in visiting the district is to officially lay the foundation stone in connection with the erection of the new Reformatory buildings at Tokanui.
This morning Sir John was shown over the newly-formed tennis courts and bowling greens at the Victoria Park by the chairman of the Town Board (Mr C. Bowden). There were also present: Messrs G. H. White and Dr. Reekie (members of Town Board), J. B. Teasdale (Waipa County Council), Rev:;. W. Woollass and Lamond, Messrs D. Bjckc:.t and W. F. Stewart. A p irty of school children and cadets under Mr F. D. Wood and S;rgt--.iAJor Hatt were marched up to the Park. In a short address Sir John expressed appreciation at seeing so many children before him. To the cadets he convcveci a message from the cadets of England, which showed a keen interest was felt in the cadet movement of New Zealand. He urged upon the cadets to pay strict attention to their masters as discipline was the grounding of a good soldier. Further remarks were stopped by a sudden shower, and after singing the National Anthem, the children returned to the school. To-day at noon Sir John will lay the foundation stone at Tokanui. Sir John Findlay requested the Headmaster to give the children a half-holiday to-day in honour of his visit. On the return of the Ministerial party from Tokanui, ■ luncheon will be served in Jackson's sample rooms.
