OBITUARY.
Donald McPherson Matheson. (/ETAT 40 YEARS) It is with profound regret that we have to announce the death, (which occurred yesterday afternoon), of one of Te Awamutu’s most sterling citizens, Mr Donald McPherson Matheson late Accountant of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand. It is some three months since Mr Matheson was compelled to relinquish his duties, and it was then thought that three months furlough would have restored him to health, but the throat complaint from which he suffered slowly but surely'‘dispelled any such hopes. Mr Matheson has been in the employ of the Bank of New Zealand since his arrival from Scotland some 14 years ago, having served in Canterbury, Westland, Taranaki and Auckland, and during the last five years has held the position of accountant here. ' The deceased was that stamp of citizen that no community can afford to lose, unobtrusive and retiring, but genuine to the core, and of most kindly heart. Of him it could be truly said that the right hand knew nothing .of the doings of the left, and there are those in Te Awamutu who know what a friend indeed he could be, and has often been. To Mrs Matheson (a daughter of our respected townsman, Captain Bocketi) w r e extend our sympathy in her sad loss, but she may take comfort from the fact that the whole community deplores the loss of her late husband as neighbour, friend, and most of all an honest, upright, kindly man.
