POST OFFICE CLOCK AND TOWER.
The Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce (Mr A. G. Warburton) wires from Wellington as follows :
Wellington,. Monday,
“ Had interview with Secretary General Post Office this (Monday) morning, He informs me the clock on Timaru Post Office is for sale for £250, and is to be replaced by a clock with chimes, which has been presented to the town. The Timaru clock has four dials each about 6 feet, with hour bell. Clock in good order and guaranteed by Littlejohn and Sons, makers, for another 100 years. The Secretary G.P.O. thinks very suitable for Te Awamutu requirements. The plans have been referred to Government architect to ascertain what alterations necessary to present foundations, and matter hat been referred to Cabinet for authority. The amount required to be subscribed by Te Awamutu in the event ,of taking Timaru clock will be qbout £2OO. The balance on clock and cost of tower will be borne by Government. Fuller information will be wired by the Secretaay G.P.O. to Chamber of Commerce immediately upon authority of Cabinet being obtained.”
