Owing to pressure upon our space the leader and several local items have of necessity been held over.

In another column Messrs John Court Ltd., notify that they are having a drapery display at the Commercial sample rooms, from August Ilth to 19th.

Miss Anderson Hughes, the famous temperance orator, will conduct the service in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday evening next at 7 p.m.

A vault has been erected by wealthy Maoris at Te Kuiti with the object of receiving the bones of rangatiras of Maniapoto tribe ; also precious meres, etc, that are buried with the bodies. It is proposed to exhume and scrape the bones of deceased warriors for a century back and deposit them in the vault.

This evening the ninth annual ball in connection with the Loyal Te Awamutu Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.U., will be held in the Town Hall. The arrangements are now well in hand, and a very successful and enjoyable ball should result.

The contractor for the new post office (Mr R. Orr) is losing no time in getting to work. He has already commenced to prepare the old building for removal, which will be shifted near to Mr Middlebrook’s shop, and will continue to be used until the new building is completed. Mr Orr expects to have the foundations in within a fortnight. The new building will cover the site of the present one. The Rev. Woollass, who for some time has been indisposed, went to the Hamilton hospital yesterday for the purpose of undergoing an operation on the advice of Drs Douglas and Aubi-n, after an examination under X rays by the latter. The operation is to be performed today, and under the most favourable circumstances it will be some weeks before' Mr Woollass will be able to resume his duties. His many friends will be wishful for his complete recovery. A committee meeting of the Te Awamutu Philharmonic Society was held on Wednesday evening, at which there were present: — Misses Alexander and Mandeno, Messrs Blythe, Moeller, and Warburton (secretary). The followingnew members were duly elected : Misses M. Teddy, M. Andrew, F. Rickit, M. Ahier, and Schulze, Mesdames Rattson and Salter, Messrs G. Walsh, W. HumeJones, and O. Price Owen. Mr Moeller proposed that a dance be held in connection with the society at a date before the next concert. After discussion it was decided to refer the proposal to a general meeting tp be held at a date to be arranged. The following accounts were passed for payment: — WA'PA POST £l l6s 6d, F. J. Gilbert £2 18s lid, A. G. Warburton £1 os iod.
