PATERANGI.
The settlers of Paterangi assembled in the Paterangi Hall on Wednesday evening for the purpose of farewelling Mr and Mrs J. Russell, who are about to leave the district for Pukehoe. Mr held the position of manager of the New Zealand Dairy Association's factory at Paterangi for about nine years, it can honestly be said that he has earned the goodwill and esteem of everyone with whom he has been brought in contact, so that every resident was present to wish him farewell. Mr G. Finch, who occupies the proud position of being that indispensable individual who never dies, "the oldest inhabitant,"occupied the chair, and after expressing the deep and genuine regret they all felt at the departure of their old friends, presented Mr Russell with a racket from the Tennis Club, Mrs Russell with a pair of silver candlesticks, and the guests jointly with a writing desk —a silent reminder that old friends must not be forgotton. Messrs C. Macky and H. Webb also referred in eulogistic terms to the good feeling which existed between their guests and the settlers of the district, and wish them the best of good luck in their new surroundings. Mr Russell briefly replied. Singing and dancing and the inevitable supper filled in a very pleasant evening. , ________
