HOCKEY.
TE AWAMUTU V. TE KUITI. A team from the Te Kuiti Hockey Club visited Te Awamutu yesterdav, and played the local team. The clay was fine, and on a good dry ground a very fast game resulted. There was a large number of spectators, and from the interest, shown it was evident that the 'game was fully appreciated. Play was . commenced at 2 p.m. Te Kniti drew first blood by -coring a goal, but within five minutes Te Awamutu drove the leather between the posts. At nab; time the scores were: Te Awamutu 3, Te Kuiti I. From the bully-off after--half time up Awamutu. took the ball right into the defending goal, and after some .very good defensive work by the Te Kuiti men Te Awamutu added another ' goal. For five minutes the play even, but eventually the ic Kuiti got possession, and by good passing shot a goal from a very difneuit angle. More give ; and take play followed,, put before time ivas called Te A\vamutu got another goal to rirej*-' credit, m % i ' cin ff : ] total of : Te Awamutu 5, Te Kuiti 2. ; It was a very Fast game throughout, and in spite of the difference .n die scores, play, considering ail i:hings, was fairly even. Goals were scored for Te Awa--~ mutu by M. Ryder (3). C. B. Stewart (1), W. G, Abbott (1), and for Te Kuiii by -H. du Vail (1), J i.icflit 1. i<Tr Empson. as referee, gave Tbe_ Kuiti team returned'home by the 4-SO p.m. train. A return match will be played early next month.
