MILK’S BY-PRODUCTS.

TESTS AS TO FEEDING VALUES. The Ontario Experiment Station reports a test as to the respective value of skim-milk, but-ter-milk, and whey for pig feeding. Five groups of pigs were taken for the purpose of demonstration.

To group 1 was fed about two and a half pounds'of skim r milk to every pound of barley and frozen wheat, to which some pollard was added. That was called meal, and every group got the same meal. Group 2 was fed on equal quantity in pounds of but-ter-milk and meal. Group 3 was fed on common cheese factory whey in place of slcim-milk or butter-milk, and the same ration of ,meal. Group 4 was fed on whey that had been run through the separator to take out the but-ter-fat (three-tenths of I per cent, per ioolb.), and meal as the rest. Group 5 was fed the same quantity of meal and water for their drink.

The slcim-milk gave the best results, 1.31 b., per day per pig, and it required 2541 b. of meal and 6261 b. of skim-milk to make ioolb. of gain. The butter-milk ran the skim-milk a neck-and-neck race. It took 2561 b. of meal and 6311 b. of skim-milk to make lOOlb. gain. The ordinary whey group rose to 2691 b. of meal and 7471 b. of whey to make ioolb. gain. On separated whey it took 2971 b. of meal and 7741 b. of whey to make ioolb. gain. On water and meal it required 4301 b. of meal to make ioolb. of gain.
