A RECORD SEASON.
LESS COWS AND MORE PRODUCE. At the eighteenth annual conference of the Australasian Butter and Cheese Factory Managers’ Association in Melbourne, Dr Cameron, Director of Agriculture, congratulated the association on the best season the industry had ever experienced. It was fully expected that by the end of the season, on J ne 30th, the exports of butter would have reached such a quantity as to be an indisputable record. The exports would reach 25.000 tons for the season, with a value of £2,500,000. The excellence of that record was seen when compared with the previous record, namely, in-1906-7, when 21,000 tons were exported, representing £2,100,000. There were 75,000 fewer dairy cows in Victoria now than in 1906-7, and yet the butter and milk producrion had increased by about oneninth. The results showed that cows would give the milk if fed.
