BOROUGH WORKS
REPORTS OF OFFICERS. At last night’s meeting of. the Borough Council the following reports from officers were received: — FOREMAN. General.—Blackberries have been grubbed, fence repaired and willows planted on Lindsay Reserve. Thirty chains of the side of Bibby street have been prepared and primed in readiness for sealing. Twenty hours were worked making concrete slabs for culverts, and two culverts were made in Ruataniwha street. Watertables in Victoria street have been cleaned. Shingle has been caj’ted to kerbing and channelling works as follows: —Union street, 10 yards; Rose street, 52 yards; Rathbone street, 12 yards; Barker street, 12 yards. Four yards of shingle were carted to Tamumu road, four yards to Johnson street, twelve yards to Collins street, two yards to theatre, and ten yards of red metal to Bibby street. The usual grading and rubbish carting have been done.
Waterworks—An inch connection to the sports ground has been removed, a burst water pipe in Ruataniwha street repaired, stop cocks replaced in Ruataniwha street, Great North road and Rathbone street. Three new stop cocks have been, installed, and cisterns and taps repaired where required. Cisterns are taking up a great deal of time, as some of them take as much as two hburs to repair. I think these repairs should be undertaken by plumbers and not provided gratis by the Council. On the motion of Crs. Limbrick and Holdsworth it was decided that in future repair work on cisterns be not undertaken by the Council’s staff. GASWORKS. .
