APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS
FOR PLUNKET SOCIETY AND DENTAL CLINIC
MATTERS FOR SOCIAL SECURITY.
Two applications for grants were before the Borough Council at its meeting last evening, one from the Plunket Society and the other from the Dental Clinic Committee.
In reply to a question by Cr. Limbrick as to how these grants originated the Mayor (Mr F. Eagle) said he believed it had been customary to make them from the foundation of the institutions. “This opens up quite a big question,” said the Mayor. He considered that the Social Security Act should cover such institutions, and that their maintenance should be the responsibility of the Government.
Cr. Holdsworth thought the Mayor’s suggestion should be forwarded to the Minister.
Cr. Murray suggested that the cooperation of the Waipawa County be invited, and this course was adopted. The half-yearly grant of £l3 was made to the Plunket Society and a grant of £ls to the Dental Clinic Committee, but both institutions are to be recommended to make representations to the Minister of Health.-
