CORONATION PARK

FLOOD LIOHTINO AND SHOWERS IMPROVEMENTS AUTHORISED. At its meeting last evening the Borough Council decided to ascertain what support would be forthcoming from various local institutions towards the cost of flood lighting Coronation Park, and it was also resolved to install showers, wieth a hot water service, for the use of footballers and others who may use the ground. The matter was brought up by a letter from the secretary of the Waipawa United Football Club, who stated that his club was prepared to contribute £5 towards the cost of the lights.

The Mayor (Mr F. Eagle) said other organisations in the town would probably be willing to contribute if approached. At present he had not the faintest idea of the cost. The matter of floodlighting was left with the Finance Committee with power to act. In reference to the showers the Mayor said they could be installed in the old pumping station very easily, and the whole work could be done by the Council’s staff. The only difficulty was that o-f providing hot water, but this could be overcome by installing a type of califont, which would be under control. On the motion of Crs. Limbrick and Barker it was resolved to install the showers, with provision for heating. It was also decided to close up the campers’ hut, footballers to use the dressing rooms at the pumping station.
