A THOUSAND TRADESMEN

MAKE APPLICATION FOR JOBS IN NEW ZEALAND. SYDNEY, February 23. Over 1000 building' tradesmen have made application for jobs in New Zealand. Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., said that he was satisfied that the men’s general calibre was well up to the standard required. So riiany have applied that the practicability of chartering a special steamer to take them to New Zealand is being considered. Mr Hodgens said that he found that berths will not be available on a steamer leaving Sydney on March 10th, and only a limited number could be booked on steamers leaving on March 10th, 11th and 17th. A cablegram will be sent to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, to-day, explaining the position.
