SAFE REMOVED FROM HOTEL. ROTORUA, Last night. A daring robbery was committed on the premises of the Lake House Hotel, Okinemuri, in the early hours of Monday morning, when thieves entered the buildings and removed intact the office safe containing a sum of approximately £l3O in cash and cheques. The safe was removed in a hand truck propped up with cushions taken from the hotel lounge. Two men. wheeling some object in a large truck were seen shortly after midnight by a woman returning home to Ohinemutu, but as their actions were in no way suspicious she took no notice of them, and the matter was only recollected by her when the police commenced to make inquiries this morning. Entry was gained to the hotel by forcing a back door, and a number of cushions from the lounge were used to pad the floor and deaden the sound of handling the safe. Apparently the thieves bad a car waiting, into whieh they transferred the safe, which has so far not been recovered.
