SCHOOL SPORTS

PRIMARY CHAMPIONSHIPS SUCCESSFUL INAUGURATION. The effort to inaugurate an annual primary school championship sports meeting for Central Haifke’s Bay was successful in the highest degree. The first meeting was held at Russell Park, AVaipukurau, on Friday, when the following schools were represented:—Waipawa, AA’aipukurau, Otane, Takapau, Tikokino, Onga Onga, Makaretu North, Marakelce, AVaipawa Convent, Elsthorpe, AVaipukurau Convent, Argyll East, AA T allingford, Ashley Clinton, Omakere, Hatuma, and Pukehou. AVaipawa contestants were, in the main, overshadowed and did not succeed in annexing any of the championships. Possible points (20) were secured by L. Timmins (Onga Onga), John McLean (AA 7 aipukurau), and R. Severensen (Makaretu). The officials for the day were as follows:—Starter, Mr AA 7 ills; assistant starter, Mr Jackson; judges, Messrs V. Parsons, O. Thompson, E. Thompson, Miss d’Emden, Mrs Collett and Miss AYyllie; call steward, Mr R. T. Adlam; jumping, Messrs AA 7 . J. Phillips, J. B. Bell, and G. Johnson; basketball, Misses Gray, Farrelly, MeConnon, Ingleton; teams events, Mr R. C. Adlam;- relay races, Messrs Phillips and Bell; mark stewards, Mr Lunn and Miss Doherty; timekeeper, Mr Ormond; recording clerks, Messrs Mackey and Taylor. Thanks were expressed by the committee to all those who helped to make the sports a success, and, in particular, to the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board for connecting up electric power, to Mr B. E. G. Goodger for the use of his public address system, to Mr Stan. Nicol for donation of cordials, to the AA 7aipukurau Borough Council for the use of the grounds and to. Mr T.
