SWIMMING CERTIFICATES
SUCCESSES OF WAIPAWA PUPILS. 11l spite of steady rain and the rather cold conditions prevailing at the Napier baths last Wednesday on the occasion of the annual excursion from Waipawa, many children took the opportunity of swimming for certificates. The swimming was of a particularly high standard, no fewer than eleven children gaining 880 yards Merit Certificates. It is gratifying to see the results of the extra swimming the children have had this summer reflected in the greater number of certificates obtained and the longer distances covered. At the conclusion of the swimming, members of the school life-saving class took the opportunity of practising rescue drill in the water in prepration for the examination in life-saving which will take place early in March. Swimming results were as follow : Merit Certificates, 880 yards.— Arthur Baker, Roger Black, William Collett, Harry Strang, Eric Tate, John Thompson, Noeline Page, Adele Page, Francis Pilcher, Mary Scrimgeour, Dorothy Spargo.
