RAIL-CAR SERVICES.
WHY NOT ONE FOR HAWKE’S BAY P TELEGRAMS OF PROTEST. The publication of a statement by Mr G. 11. Alackley, General Manager of Railways, announcing the intention of the Railways Board to inaugurate rail ear services between Wellington and New Plymouth, has given rise to a query as to why Hawke’s Bay has been omitted from this progressive programme, _jind yesterday telegrams of protest were forwarded by the three members for the district. Air A. E. .Tull, member for Waipawa, wired: —“While I offer your Board congratulations on the pro-
posed new rail-car services to the Wairarapa, Manawatu and Taranaki districts. T most strenuously protest against the Hawke’s Bay district being excluded from the advantages of the new and improved services. I have consulted with Messrs H. M. Campbell and W. E. Barnard, who arc equally very concerned at your omission of Hawke’s Bay from the proposed scheme, and hope that consideration will be given to this district.”
The following telegram was sent by ATr Campbell, member for Hawke’s Bay:—“I wish to protest against your leaving Hawke’s Bay out in regard to the proposed new fast passenger services, especially as your department has taken a hand with transport restriction and helped to restrict quick night passenger services. I trust you will see your way to run a night car from Napier to Wellington, thus allowing business people to have a day in Wellington without losing three days as they have t do at present.”
Air W. E. Barnard. Napier’s representative, wired: —“Afuch interest your proposals for rail-car service between Wellington and Wairarapa and Taranaki, but why is Hawke’s Bay not included? I associate myself with Messrs dull and Campbell strongly urging that Napier and Hastings with Hawke’s Bay be included in the new’ proposed sendee.”
