TRAIN & CAR.

ANOTHER CROSSING SMASH. (Per. Press Association). DUNEDIN, Last night. A crossing smash, in which the occupants of a motor car were extremely fortunate in escaping serious injury, occurred at the Rattray street railway crossing at 7.55 on Saturday evening. A large sedan car was driven by Mr Sutherland, manager of the local branch of Wright, Stephenson and Co., and accompanying him were Mrs Sutherland and Mrs J. M. Paterson.

At that time a slow tarin from Clinton was approaching the Rattray street crossing and, apparently failing to hear the warning bell, Sul her land continued on his course, with the result that the car was struck by the locomotive, turned completely round, and carired across the road to the signal box.

Mrs Patefson, who sustained a broken leg, was the only member of the party to he badly injured, though all were cut by flying glass and suffered from shock. After they had received attention, Mr and Mrs’ Sutherland were taken home, whilst Mrs Paterson was removed to hospital. The car was very badly smashed.
